Remote and wild Katavi

Safari by Foot in Tanzania's Wild Heart
Picture
book now
If you want to give us a logistical headache in terms of planning and supplies book a mobile fly camp-walking safari to Katavi National Park. Katavi is definitely one of the southern parks that is harder to get to and therefore one of the least visited. In 2012 we explored the backcountry areas finding some great locations for fly camps and walking excursions. During that trip when we left the main tourist areas nearer to the headquarters, you could expect not to see anyone else for the remainder of your safari. This was true still as of 2018 when we returned with a group we still didn’t encounter any other tourists away from the headquarters. The big open wetland/grasslands (mbugas) provide a dramatic setting against the backdrop of wooded hills and escarpments. Imagine hippos like herds of buffalo, clear flowing streams and waterfalls, grasslands like mini Serengeti’s, a majestic Sable bull in the dappled Miombo sunlight, all of this far from the beaten tourist circuit.
